When To Use Hanging Bathroom Light Fixtures
Hanging bathroom light fixtures are a sign that someone really cares about the design of their home. Most people are content with the lame bathroom light fixtures that they already have, but those that take the extra step know that people notice. The hanging variety certainly aren’t for everyone, though, and this post will help you understand if they’re right for your home.
Before you can decide if hanging fixtures are the right choice for your bathroom you first have to envision what the final version of your bathroom is going to look like. A chandelier in the bathroom is going to look pretty awful in a modern themed room, so before you jump in and go shopping figure out what it’s ultimately going to be when it’s finished.
Your ceiling height is going to play a major role in whether or not you can even use a hanging fixtures. There are building codes that are usually applied to the height that a light fixture can be from the ground, but you can probably use common sense instead. You might only be five foot four, but that doesn’t mean that you aren’t going to have guests that are taller than six foot. With that in mind you should make sure that the lowest point of your hanging fixture is at least seven feet from the floor.
Installation of these will depend on what’s already in place in your bathroom. If you have a ceiling fixture already in place it’s probably as easy as taking out the old one and installing the hanging one. You may need to add extra support in the ceiling if your new fixture is substantially bigger than the old one. If you are planning a new installation, seeking the help of an electrician is a good idea. Running wire through walls is a pain to do, unless you know what you’re doing.
Improving your bathroom lighting is an excellent way to enjoy your home more and increase its value at the same time. Hanging bathroom light fixtures have their place in some homes, and if yours is one of them do it!
