First of all, every kitchen needs a refrigerator and a freezer to keep things fresh and chilled.  Just because you don’t have room for a large unit doesn’t mean you have to settle for a lousy dorm room fridge either.  You can get a mini refrigerator freezer combination that has separate compartments.  What this does is ensure that the freezer will work properly, as opposed to a little pocket at the top of the fridge.

Although it isn’t really a necessity, having a dishwasher is one of those luxuries that most people really don’t want to go without.  When you think about it, paying a few hundred bucks to forget about washing the dishes for years is well worth it.  If you can’t fit a full-height unit into your small kitchen, try getting a table top dishwasher.  These little appliances sit either on the counter itself or on a rolling kitchen cart, and get connected right to the kitchen sink.  They don’t have the capacity of a full sized dishwasher of course, but they can easily wash up the dishes that four people make during dinner.

As you’ve read here, you don’t have to settle for less if you have a small kitchen.  You might not be able to fit as much into the refrigerator or dishwasher, but then again, less people usually live in places that have smaller kitchens.  As long as you keep things neat and organized, you should have all of the space you need.
